what, a whirlwind! you guys said it yourselves, you've gone from being a big local band, and then a national band without even knowing it. now you're going on tour with the bravery. how do you stay humble and grounded?
we just always remember why we play music, becuase it's such an important part of our lives and we're so passionate about it. it's not about how many people like us it's about each person individually and if one of our songs can connect with someone the way our favorie songs have connected with us thats all we want. plus we were humble from the start so it's easy to stay with it. we've always been thankfully for everything we have. even when we played to 5 people and were hand making ep's with a sewing machine. now that your shows have gone from tens of people to hundreds and even over a thousand, do you feel a little overwhelmed sometimes? Actually up untill a few months a go i would have said no but with the release of our record things have gotten crazy. especially since for the most part i'm a keep to myself kinda guy. i spend alot of time in my basement reading and writing and playin guitar. but we try not to get overwhelmed. I think we help keep each other grounded. when bands "make it" they always recall on the vh1 specials the days when there were more people working at the bar or club than actually came to the show. did you guys have any weird experiences while on tour? We were playing in austin, tx a few weeks ago sxsw. We start playing and the place was a little over crowded two songs into our set people started jumping on stage and dancing. which we are cool with. but then someone spilled a whole beer on my guitar pedals and it just stopped working. we finished the song and i felt bad but i had to kick everyone off stage. I could understand the last song jump up lets go crazy but second song in how are we gonna finish our set. I actually said on the mic "guys it's awesome that your pouring onto the stage but your breaking all our stuff. Wait till the end then we can brake it." so last song everybody was on stage we broke the bass amp two mics some stage lights. i might have been responsible for one of those lights. so your new cd has been out for a bit, by the way, i love it. it always puts me in a good mood. have you been able to hear any of your songs on the radio or on mtvU yet? if so, did it catch you by surprise? I haven't yet but i've had a bunch of friends from all over the place calling me goin "holy crap i just heard you on the radio, oh my god". it's exciting. but if and when i do hear us on the radio. I'm sure i'd play it cool on the outside but inside i would be pretty excited. how hard was it to be an indie punk band in colorado? i mean when i think colorado i don't think punk! I know you would think we got a bunch of hippies or soft rock bands but suprisingly denver has an awesome indie scene. better than alot of cities we've been too. and the great thing about it is that we go so unnoticed that everyone plays there hearts out. I think the entire denver indie/punk scene is trying to cast away that imagine. but there's probubly nothing we can do about it. there still are alot of hippies. so right now, it seems to be that big radio has taken notice to all the indie, punk, and emo bands as of late. what do you think it will take for you stay relevant and not end up being just part of the next big radio fad? I think the fact that we are kind of a weird band. we do things our way. we pull from alot of fimiliar influences, at the drive in, interpol, cursive, the faint, and fugazi but i think we all have intersting styles about it. My voice for example is pretty high pitched and different, sometimes people get turned off. but we don't care if people do get turned off. we're making music the way we want to. one more serious question if i may, as a band, what are your plans/ambitions for the next year? We are gonna tour our asses off. we all really wanna go to europe really badly. we want to reach as many people as possible. I think if we get to a point where we can pack small clubs all over in the next year that would do. ok, so if this were in person, this would be the rapid fire round, so just pretend i'm shooting off these questions fast! which ninja turtle matches you best? why? Michealangelo he's a party dude in a rap off, who wins, kevin federline or vanilla ice? Vanilla Ice cause he went crazy. pink floyd or led zeppelin? led zepplin all the way. pink floyd a little to psychadelic for me. elvis or johnny cash? damn thats tough. elvis cause he could dance! did oj do it? no of course not. if our justice system didn't think so how could he. and lastly, how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck would chuck wood? 75 pounds of sweet sweet oak.
